1. How Hillhouse Develops Future Business Leaders with Interdisciplinary Strengths
Among our students, many are interested in business. We hope to cultivate these students to pursue interdisciplinary pathways such as Business + STEM, Business + Humanities, or Business + the Arts, truly achieving a balance of liberal arts and sciences for comprehensive development. We believe that future business professionals must not only understand profit but also understand the world, humanity, and responsibility.
The Hillhouse business and STEM interdisciplinary faculty team, led by Peter, is capable of tutoring in Economics, Finance, Advanced Mathematics, and Academic Writing courses at world-class universities like Yale, Harvard, Wharton, and Berkeley. Our teachers support students in advanced university-level subjects while also helping younger students understand what future academic and professional pathways may require. By working backward from university expectations, we help high school students build strong foundations in mathematics, writing, economics, and analytical thinking. We also provide project-based opportunities that connect classroom learning with real-world business questions.
2. Cultivating Business + Interdisciplinary Skills from a Young Age
A significant number of our students begin participating in international business competitions from grades 5-6, learning the basic operations, financial, and marketing frameworks of companies. This enhances key skills such as communication, time management, and self-challenge, stimulating their interest in business and fostering a confident and outgoing personality. Simultaneously, we reinforce fundamental math and writing skills, gradually transitioning to challenging courses in high school like AP English, Calculus, AP Economics, AP Statistics, and AP Computer Science. Students also participate in:
- Economics essay competitions, Economics Olympiad
- Business competitions, tech business competitions, case studies
- AI and business management projects, research-based project training ......
This systematic approach aims to guide students from exploring interests to developing capabilities, and then to achieving advanced breakthroughs.
3. Hillhouse's Strong and Diverse Faculty Background
Our teaching team has backgrounds spanning finance, engineering, pharmaceutical marketing, and entrepreneurial management, possessing:
- Experience in financial modeling and data analysis for US-listed companies
- Background in strategic planning and execution for North American startups
- Market research experience in medical devices and biotechnology
- Served as a mentor and won awards multiple times in Canadian and international business competitions
For example, when we guide students through projects like "Fixed Asset and Non-Cash Flow Modeling Analysis," which requires strong mathematical modeling and financial analysis skills, it is a prime example of the deep integration of business and STEM.
For instance, in September 2019, Peter mentored a Wharton School undergraduate investment project:
Topic: Is now the best time to invest in the US-based Bristol Myers Squibb pharmaceutical group (annual sales of 20 billion USD) (Stock Pitch).
A large amount of financial statements and business descriptions needed to be digested for financial and business analysis. Financial analysis included Price-to-Earnings (P/E) ratio, Acid-test ratio (liquidity), Net revenue growth, and so on. Our education center's versatile teacher, Peter (specializing in Calculus, Linear Algebra, Physics, Economics, and Statistics, with degrees in Computational Mathematics from the University of Cologne, Germany, and Nanjing University, and also a Canadian Certified Public Accountant proficient in financial analysis and data analysis), leverages his practical experience at large listed companies in China, Canada, and the US to provide accessible and insightful guidance on various investment principles.
Below are the company's 2019 half-year report and related information, a report totaling over thirty pages, requiring quick reading and analysis.
