1. Hillhouse is dedicated to fostering and enhancing students' mathematical skills
Mathematics serves as an excellent foundation for developing critical thinking skills, as it involves reading questions carefully, applying fundamental knowledge, reasoning logically, and performing calculations. This makes math not only a model for analytical training but also a cornerstone for success across all subjects. While many students from China possess strong math skills, some students born in Canada may require additional support to strengthen their math abilities. At Hillhouse, we provide comprehensive math training with the help of a skilled teaching team, a robust curriculum for advanced topics and competitions, and the use of multimedia interactive tools and heuristic teaching methods. These resources enhance focus and build a solid mathematical foundation for our students.
Hillhouse’s math training begins with mastering the core areas of elementary algebra, geometry, counting, probability, and number theory. As students reach an intermediate level, we tailor their learning paths to meet their individual needs. This may include focusing on schoolwork, developing problem-solving strategies, learning research methods, preparing for AP/IB courses, or delving into mathematical modeling. For advanced learners, we offer targeted training for competitions like the AMC and COMC. Our curriculum demands a high level of expertise from our teaching team to ensure effective and personalized instruction.
Teachers' lesson plan materials (International Mathematical Olympiad IMO)
Hillhouse teachers not only uphold high academic standards, but also offer several additional benefits:
1. They are well-versed in the mathematics curricula of both the United States and Canada, with a clear understanding of their similarities and differences.
2. They are knowledgeable about the key concepts and exam structures for SAT, AP, and IB mathematics assessments.
3. They are familiar with the frameworks of various mathematics competitions.
4. Most importantly, they understand students' personalities, are adept at adapting their teaching methods, and inspire a passion for mathematics.

Our Hillhouse teaching team has a strong passion for education. With years of experience, we have refined our expertise and tailor our teaching methods to suit each student's individual needs. We create personalized study plans to help students enhance their academic performance.
In the age of artificial intelligence, mathematics serves as the cornerstone not only for fields like AI, data science, and computer engineering, but also provides essential tools for conducting research in the humanities, including history, economics, philosophy, and literature. One of our Hillhouse graduates from last year, a freshman in the Department of Philosophy, secured a summer internship in AI-related work at Google and even published research papers. This achievement stemmed from the strong mathematical foundation he built in middle school, despite initially being more inclined toward the liberal arts and not having a strong passion for mathematics. For over two decades, we have prioritized writing and mathematical training in the education of elementary and middle school students across North America, a decision we consider crucial to their success.
2. A strong track record of success among our students provides reassurance to current learners.
Our scientifically designed teaching methods deliver exceptional results with greater efficiency. Every student at Hillhouse has seen remarkable improvement in their math scores. 100% of our students have achieved grades between 95-100, including in AP and IB courses, online classes, and summer school programs. Students aiming for prestigious American universities have earned perfect scores on standardized tests such as the SAT and AP/IB exams. Private school students have been admitted to advanced classes, while public school students have successfully skipped grades.
For students with strong math abilities, we offer targeted plans to help them excel in advanced courses, such as Math 200 in the first and second years of UBC or other universities, during their 11th and 12th grades, earning top marks and praise from professors. Our students have also participated in top-tier math summer camps, like the Ross Summer Camp in the US.
Many of our graduates, who started with average math skills in grades 4-5 and even had a dislike for the subject, were inspired and motivated by their teachers to persevere. By their senior years, these students participated in math competitions across North America for grades 10-12, placing in the top 10-30. We hope their stories inspire confidence in you.
I recall that in 2008, three Vancouver students participated in the prestigious United States Mathematical Olympiad (USAMO), the highest level of math competition in the US. Two of them were Hillhouse students. Their success has reinforced our commitment to providing high-quality math training for young learners.
At Hillhouse, our educators are experienced in helping students with weak math skills strengthen their abilities, ultimately broadening their career options after college. For instance, some students who initially focused on art or liberal arts, through dedicated effort and continuous progress, have successfully gained admission to prestigious institutions like Cornell, Columbia, Cambridge, Yale, and Northwestern, with outstanding AP math and physics scores. Additionally, many of the liberal arts students we mentor at Hillhouse either transition into fields like finance, data science, and business, or pursue a dual degree in liberal arts and sciences in college.
We also specialize in supporting students who face significant learning challenges and are currently performing below the passing threshold, helping them improve their academic skills and successfully gain admission to institutions like UBC.
By setting clear goals, building confidence, and fostering perseverance, every student can achieve remarkable progress with the guidance of the Hillhouse teaching team.

3. Some results of Hillhouse student mathematics competition
The instructors at Hillhouse have over 20 years of experience coaching mathematics competitions in both the United States and Canada, continuously building their expertise. We have developed our own comprehensive set of teaching materials specifically for math competitions. Unlike other programs, we do not use advertisements to select students. Since 2001, we have successfully trained an increasing number of students, with many achieving outstanding results in mathematics competitions across North America each year.
BC Math Challenge team champion, top three individual...
Our students participated in AMC8, 10, 12, COMC , etc. with excellent results, and entered USAMO, CMO, AIME, and entered the national training team
Competition Winners
Many students have won first place awards from schools such as Churchill IB, St Georges, WPGA, Lord Byng, and Collingwood in these competitions.
Our students won the first place in St Georges eight years ago
Our students received full marks in the 2024 Canadian Grade 10 Cayley Mathematics Competition and won the Canadian championship medal.
Over the years, Hillhouse has trained students to win medals and trophies in mathematics competitions.
4. How to participate in American mathematics competitions and their relationship with university admissions
Enter AIME, score above 10, top 30 universities with a high chance of getting into science and engineering
USJMO, USAMO (500 selected for the US Mathematical Olympiad)
Most students enter universities such as Harvard, Yale, Prussia and Harvard
5. Overview of Mathematics Competitions in the United States and Canada
Every year, more than 300,000 students in North America participate in the American Mathematics Contest (AMC), which can be described as "universal participation". The first 10 or even 15 questions of the Canadian math competition are basic math questions in school, so schools encourage most students to actively participate, with a 25% winning rate. It can be seen that mathematics is a basic subject suitable for most students to invest time in.
Reflection: Parents can see that some children around them show great math talent in grades 5-8, but when they reach senior grades, they are not eligible for competitions. There are many reasons for this problem, such as students' wide range of interests or transfer, the excitement of extracurricular activities, adolescent rebellion, the temptation of games...
Therefore, it is very important to cultivate interests and habits from an early age, proceed step by step, and make efficient use of time.
