1. Hillhouse places great emphasis on developing students' mathematical abilities.
Mathematical logic and thinking skills are the cornerstones of the AI era. Hillhouse Education creates a personalized learning pace and growth path for every child. 95% of our students enter top math classes in private schools or complete their math courses 1-2 years ahead of schedule in public schools and achieve excellent results.
1. Why does Hillhouse place such importance on advance math planning?
First : Mathematics scores are a key breakthrough for every student's academic advancement. For example:
1. Canadian universities (such as UBC) offer early admissions, giving priority to students who have achieved excellent grades in grades 11 and 12.
2. Business schools, engineering schools, and even the Faculty of Arts at the University of Toronto all require students to complete Calculus 12.
3. The SAT/ACT exams place extremely high demands on mathematical logic and reasoning abilities.
4. Top universities in the US and Canada tend to admit students who excel in math competitions and research.
5. The curriculum in British Columbia is relatively less difficult, allowing students to learn more advanced math concepts in advance and prepare for the future.
Secondly , in the context of the AI era, mathematics is not only the foundation of artificial intelligence, data science, and computer engineering, but also essential for expanding research in the humanities, including history, economics, philosophy, and literature. Among our Hillhouse graduates last year, the first freshman to secure a summer job was a philosophy student working at Google on AI-related topics and publishing a paper. This success stemmed from a solid mathematical foundation built during high school—a result of a student who initially disliked math and was more inclined towards the humanities. We are fortunate to have consistently prioritized writing and mathematical training in North American primary and secondary education for over two decades.
II. How the Hillhouse teacher team improves students' math skills
Combined with a multimedia interactive blackboard and heuristic teaching methods, it helps students improve their concentration, solidify their mathematical foundation, and achieve comprehensive and long-term improvement in their learning abilities.
At Hillhouse Education Consulting, we not only focus on training mathematical knowledge and skills , but also encourage students to apply what they've learned to solve real-world problems, strengthening their mathematical application skills . In our teaching, in addition to reinforcing word problems and projects in schoolwork and competitions, we also emphasize mathematical research projects (research-based summer programs, scientific research competitions), mathematical modeling competition training, and research combining statistics with AI, life sciences, or humanities…
Three: Hillhouse's math training methods:
First, students need to master the basics of algebra, geometry, counting, probability, and number theory. Once their mathematical skills reach an intermediate level, different approaches should be chosen based on their individual circumstances: focusing on schoolwork and problem-solving skills, developing research paper writing techniques, and preparing them for AP/IB and mathematical modeling; or further strengthening their preparation for competitions such as AMC and COMC. These teaching methods demand a high level of expertise from the teaching team.
The teachers' lesson preparation materials are as follows: (International Mathematical Olympiad, IMO)

Fourthly, in addition to their high academic standards and teaching skills, Hillhouse's faculty members possess the following advantages:
1. Be familiar with the American and Canadian math textbook systems, and understand their similarities and differences.
2. Familiar with the key points and curriculum of SAT/AP/IB math exams.
3. Familiar with the outlines of various mathematics competitions
4. Most importantly, it is essential to understand students' personalities and be adept at transforming and inspiring their love for mathematics.
The teachers' lesson preparation materials are as follows (from past AMC (American Mathematics Competitions) competitions).
Teachers adhere to the principle of individualized instruction, developing personalized and highly efficient learning plans for each student to help them significantly improve their academic performance in a short period of time.
2. Numerous demonstrably successful cases instill confidence in current students.
Scientific planning and teaching methods can achieve twice the results with half the effort. All our students show significant improvement in math scores after coming to Hillhouse. 100% of our students achieve grades between 95 and 100 in their schoolwork, including AP and IB courses, online courses, or summer school programs. Students aiming for top American universities achieve perfect scores on standardized tests such as the SAT and AP/IB. Private school students enter honors classes, and public school students skip grades.
For students with strong math skills, we offer a scientifically designed program to help them prepare for challenging first- and second-year university courses like Math200 in grades 11-12, achieving top scores and earning high praise from professors. Alternatively, they can gain admission to top-tier US and Canadian math summer camps or the Ross Summer Camp.
Many of our Hillhouse students, who have now graduated from university, had mediocre math skills in grades 4 and 5, and some even disliked math. Through the constant inspiration and encouragement of their teachers and their perseverance, they progressed to participating in national and Canadian math competitions for grades 10-12, achieving rankings in the top 10-30. We hope these students' stories will give everyone confidence .
I remember in 2008, the three students from Vancouver who qualified for the USAMO (United States Mathematical Olympiad), the highest level of mathematics competitions in the United States, were a fourth-grader and a tenth-grader who had come to Vancouver after seventh grade. (The two levels above USAMO, MOSP and IMO, are only open to students with US green cards.) Two of them were students from Hillhouse. Their success reinforced our commitment to providing high-standard mathematical skills training for young children.

Our teachers at Hillhouse are experienced in helping students with weaker math skills maximize their mathematical abilities, giving them more options for university majors . For example, some students studying art or humanities, through hard work and continuous improvement, have gained admission to prestigious universities such as Cornell (architecture), Columbia, Cambridge, Yale, and Northwestern, based on their excellent AP math and physics scores. Furthermore, many of our well-rounded humanities students at Hillhouse either transfer to finance, data science, or business schools, or obtain a double major in arts and sciences ...
We also have experience helping children who have very difficult learning skills and are below the passing grade to improve their learning abilities and get into UBC.
With the help of the Hillhouse teacher team, students can make the greatest progress by setting goals, building confidence, and persevering.

4. How to participate in US math competitions and their relationship to college admissions
The AMC exams include AMC 8, 10, and 12.
(Approximately 300,000 students from North America participated)
AIME (5000 selected for the American Invitational Mathematics Competition)
To qualify for the AIME, a score of 10 or higher is required; a top 30 university in STEM fields is likely to be included.
USJMO, USAMO (500 selected for the US Mathematical Olympiad)
The vast majority of USAMO Ivy League universities
MOsP Training Camp (12 selected for the Olympiad Training Camp)
IMO (6 selected for the International Olympiad)
Most students go on to universities such as Harvard, Yale, Rudd, Stanford, and MIT.
5. Overview of Mathematics Competitions in the United States and Canada
Over 300,000 students in North America participate in the American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) annually, making it a truly "nationwide" competition. In Canada, the first 10 to 15 questions in math competitions are often basic school math problems, so schools encourage most students to participate, with a 25% success rate. This demonstrates that mathematics is a fundamental subject suitable for the vast majority of students to dedicate their time to.
Reflection: Parents often see children who display exceptional mathematical talent in grades 5-8, but fail to compete in higher grades. The reasons for this are varied, including students having broad or shifting interests, a wide range of exciting extracurricular activities, teenage rebellion, and the allure of video games...
Therefore, it is very important to cultivate interests and habits from a young age, proceed step by step, and make efficient use of time.
