Hillhouse Statistics 12, AP Statistics Winter Break Class Enrollment

Why study statistics?

Mastering statistics lays the foundation for future career success: Statistics is the foundational subject for today's most popular AI and machine learning technologies. Without a solid foundation in statistics, the powerful AI prediction and generative models we see today would not exist. Statistics courses provide students with knowledge and skills related to data science. Whether pursuing a career in natural sciences, social sciences, finance, business, medicine, or even literary creation, skills in data collection and analysis are essential. Countless scholars and top researchers in various industries emphasize the importance of strong statistical abilities. It is ranked alongside calculus and linear algebra as a required course for STEM students, and even for literature and business students. Students graduating from Hillhouse University and going on to prestigious universities , regardless of their major, recognize the importance of statistics as a foundational course for AI during their university years and all choose to take at least one statistics course.

However, mastering statistics is no easy feat, and achieving high scores in school is even more challenging, requiring strong mathematical, reading, writing, and critical thinking skills . Furthermore, different schools have different teaching styles. For example, Lord Byng 's courses have a heavy workload, with quizzes almost weekly , demanding a high level of comprehension from students. Crofton's statistics courses, on the other hand, involve minimal classroom instruction, relying heavily on students' self-study abilities to improve grades. To help these students, we plan to offer another statistics class for those about to take the course in the fall semester, or those currently struggling with statistics, aiming to improve their scores while ensuring they grasp the concepts.

Course Overview

Hillhouse Statistics 12, AP Statistics, is based on the school's exam syllabus and the AP exam syllabus, and its curriculum is designed to closely align with exam requirements.

  • The course covers all exam content in 9 chapters.

  • For each chapter, multiple-choice and short-answer questions are provided as practice exercises after class.

  • After completing all the teaching content, a final review will be conducted before the exam. Practice will cover all knowledge points and question types.

  • The course continues until the AP exam or the school exam is over.

A list of statistics courses currently offered

Hillhouse's 12th grade and AP Statistics courses are nearing completion, with approximately 80% of the curriculum finished. Comprehensive review will begin soon. This has helped students at private schools like Crofton achieve excellent academic results, provided a solid foundation for public school students like Lordbyng to begin their statistics courses in the fall, and prepared them for the May AP exams. This demonstrates a scientifically planned curriculum, taking advantage of the optimal timeframe for instruction. Besides excellent grades and AP exam scores, students with a strong statistics foundation have also participated in AI research and mathematical modeling. Hillhouse's statistics curriculum is comprehensive, using real-life examples to explain abstract statistical concepts. Homework is provided after class; in addition to textbook exercises, teachers create concept clarification questions based on years of teaching experience, addressing easily confused concepts from multiple units. In-class quizzes are conducted and graded immediately to ensure student progress. We plan to launch new statistics classes around the winter break to help students who haven't yet started preparing. Below are some highlights from our teaching.

Hillhouse's Course Features

The Hillhouse Statistics 12 & AP Statistics curriculum team boasts extensive teaching experience and a wealth of excellent teaching materials. Over the past decade, they have continuously refined and improved their teaching methods, enabling students to fully grasp the course content while simultaneously enhancing their academic performance. For example, past students from Crofton, St Georges, WPGA, and Lordbyng have consistently achieved scores above 95, with some even achieving perfect scores.

Hillhouse excels at summarizing the scoring points, mistakes, and key concepts in AP exam questions. They integrate frequently missed and frequently tested questions into their teaching, allowing students to improve their test-taking skills while learning.

As shown in the diagram, Hillhouse provides related homework, in-class tests, and grading for each lesson. This allows for real-time monitoring of student progress. Teachers can adjust time allocation according to student pace to achieve the best teaching results.

Hillhouse has aligned itself with the major trend of AI, updated its teaching methods, and used real data to present the statistical analysis process to students in a variety of ways, greatly reducing the learning threshold for students.

For students with weaker learning abilities or less self-discipline, we will set up study rooms and strengthen supervision.

Teacher Profile

Nick studied both humanities and sciences in high school and university, with a background in mathematics competitions and data science research. He has excellent communication skills, using simple yet precise language to describe and explain problems. He is attentive to students' emotional changes and adapts his teaching methods accordingly, seeking the most suitable way for students to understand and ensuring efficient learning, which makes him very popular with students.

Nick graduated from Fudan University with a bachelor's degree and was an exchange student at UC Berkeley. He graduated with straight A's from UBC with a master's degree in Data Science. At our company, he tutors students in mathematics, statistics, and physics at universities including UC Berkeley, the University of Toronto's business school, and UBC. Together with Peter, he has coached students for math and mathematical modeling competitions, helped them achieve excellent results in high-level AI research summer programs, and guided students in writing papers for the world's first high school AI paper conference , resulting in publication. His tutoring of high school science, math, and physics students has yielded significant and outstanding academic results. These achievements are attributed to Nick's strong background in AI data and statistics. His statistics courses incorporate real-world data, giving students the opportunity to experience the practical applications of statistics for optimal learning outcomes.
