Academic Background

Ms. Lily Wang is a distinguished graduate of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program at Richmond Secondary School, one of the top high schools in the Greater Vancouver area. During her time there, she earned top honors in Chemistry 12, Calculus 12, English 12, and Japanese 12, ranking among the top three students overall. Her academic performance reflects a strong balance between the sciences and the humanities.

Lily completed her undergraduate studies at the University of British Columbia (UBC), majoring in Civil Engineering. She also studied as an exchange student at Waseda University in Japan. She received numerous accolades, including the BC Hydro Scholarship, the Engineers and Geoscientists BC Scholarship, and the UBC Trek Excellence Scholarship. Lily represented UBC in North American academic competitions and earned awards, delivered a TED talk, and won the Gold Medal in the National Japanese Speech Contest for university students across Canada. During the pandemic, she secured a consulting position with a prominent engineering firm in downtown Vancouver. Known for her analytical rigor and problem-solving efficiency, Lily brings a highly disciplined and results-oriented approach to everything she does.

Teaching Experience

Ms. Lily Wang has been a dedicated educator at Hillhouse for over six years, specializing in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, General Science, and Japanese. With a deep understanding of the Canadian secondary school system, she excels at designing curriculum from a student-centered perspective, enabling learners to approach complex challenges with confidence and clarity.

Lily focuses on helping students build a strong foundation in subject-specific thinking and problem-solving strategies. Her guidance has led to significant improvements in students’ academic performance across school courses—including AP and IB programs—as well as in summer programs, online courses, and academic competitions. She is highly regarded and well-loved by Hillhouse students.

Research Capabilities

In addition to her outstanding academic achievements, Ms. Lily Wang possesses extensive hands-on experience in research and project-based work. She has served as a Project Research Assistant at Metro Vancouver’s Water Services Department, where she was responsible for reservoir modeling, water quality assessment, and cross-departmental coordination. She also worked at SRK Consulting as a Geotechnical and Civil Assistant, contributing to dam safety monitoring, soil testing, and risk analysis. These experiences honed her skills in logical analysis, technical report writing, and project management.

Lily has also represented UBC in numerous international student engineering competitions, consistently earning top honors. She led the UBC team to place in the global top three in the EERI Seismic Design Competition for two consecutive years (2020 and 2021). Additionally, her team’s sustainable building project won first place in the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2020 Solar Decathlon. These achievements not only reflect her deep command of scientific and engineering thinking, but also highlight her exceptional leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.
