
Academic Background
Mr. Jason Hu graduated from Killarney Secondary as the top student in his class. In Grade 10, he achieved an outstanding score of 97% on the Euclid Mathematics Contest and earned a top score of 5 in AP Calculus BC. He received perfect scores in Mathematics 12, AP Calculus 12, and in Physics and Chemistry throughout Grades 11 and 12. Jason is known for his strong communication skills and his enthusiasm for tutoring and supporting fellow students.
Jason graduated with distinction from UBC with a degree in Mathematics, completing his undergraduate studies in just three years. He ranked in the top 5% of his science cohort and received the prestigious Trek Excellence Scholarship. In his second year, he achieved the highest score in his Linear Algebra course and, as one of the faculty’s most promising students, was awarded the Dean’s Scholarship from the Faculty of Science.
Jason also participated in the UBC Sauder Ignite Business Case Competition, earning 2nd place. He ranked first in all of his technical writing courses at UBC and was awarded the Frank and Betty de Bruyn Scholarship in recognition of his excellence.
Professional Experience
Jason worked as a data analyst at DarkVision Technologies, where he provided consulting reports to the world’s largest energy companies. He led a team of 20 analysts, ensuring efficient collaboration through Trello and maintaining a 95% on-time delivery rate across 15 concurrent projects. He also served as a key advisor for resolving project bottlenecks.
Renowned for his exceptional training abilities, Jason recruited and trained 27 new analysts. His creative and professional PowerPoint multimedia presentations received widespread praise. By applying MATLAB for statistical variance analysis, he reduced quality control process times by 30% and presented clear, actionable results using Excel.
Tutoring Experience
Between 2019 and 2021, Jason served as a teaching assistant at UBC, instructing university-level mathematics and computer science courses. His work included tools such as IPython, LaTeX, and Shotcut, and he created animations to illustrate deep and complex mathematical concepts, earning strong praise from students.
Jason has been working at Hillhouse for a year, where his enthusiasm, approachability, and empathy have made him a student favorite. Highly valued at Hillhouse, Jason turned down a national offer from a leading internet company to join the Hillhouse team full-time. Notably, he has helped Hillhouse students achieve the Meritorious Award in the HiMCM competition. He is also part of the admissions planning team.
