Hillhouse计算机课程Jason Cheng博士简介

Academic Background

At the age of 15, Jason was admitted to the Young Talent Program at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). He was also granted direct admission to Beijing Foreign Studies University and was offered guaranteed placement in both the Physics and Mathematics programs at Peking University. Jason chose to pursue a double degree in Management Science and Computer Science at USTC and later earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from University College Dublin.

Professional Experience

Jason has conducted research at key EU laboratories and at Ireland’s National Digital Research Centre, focusing on artificial intelligence algorithms in areas such as speech recognition, image recognition, search engines, and recommendation systems. He was also a core member of the original development team at Zoom, bringing top-tier experience in software development and project management. At Hillhouse, Jason will be teaching courses in Computer Science, Mathematics, and Research.

Teaching Experience

During his doctoral studies, Jason was responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in Computer Science. He later expanded his teaching to Canada, focusing on Computer Science and other STEM subjects, and now has over 15 years of successful teaching experience. He is skilled at inspiring students’ enthusiasm for active learning and emphasizes a teaching approach that integrates both theory and practice. Nearly all of his AP class students have achieved a top score of 5, with some earning a perfect score of 100—a distinction held by only about 300 students worldwide. His students have also won multiple awards and honors in competitions such as the Canadian Computing Competition (CCC) and the American Computer Science League (ACSL).

Educational Expertise

Jason excels at transforming students’ mindsets. Having served as an executive at leading companies in related industries, he brings a professional perspective to guiding and helping young people develop a healthy understanding of gaming, e-sports, and short-form video content. He has successfully inspired students struggling with gaming and internet addiction to cultivate a genuine interest in computer science, turning them into top achievers. For example, he once helped a student who was nearly expelled in Grade 11 and required psychological counseling due to gaming addiction. Under Jason’s guidance, the student made a remarkable turnaround and was ultimately admitted to Carnegie Mellon University’s Software Engineering program.
